NHL Free Agency 2012 Live Blog

Grab your provisions, free agency officially begins at noon today, but the general managers are already getting to work. I’ll keep this post updated as the news rolls in, so make sure to stick with us.

Ok, folks. I’m taking a break to get some food and . Make sure you’re following the Aerys NHL Twitter account for the latest signings.

3:07 pm: Dustin Penner has signed a 1 year extension with the Los Angeles Kings valued at just over $3 million as per Pierre LeBrun. Pancakes for everyone.

2:47 pm: Florida Panthers have signed defenseman Filip Kuba to a 2 year, $4 million per year contract. No, I am not making this up.

2:41 pm: Tanner Glass is off to Pittsburgh on a 2 year deal averaging $1.1 million a year.

2:37 pm: Can’t say it any better than Joe Yerdon: “Arron Asham just won Atlantic Division BINGO, signs with the Rangers. He’s a former Flyer, Pen, Isle, and Devil.”

2:22 pm: Pittsburgh has re-signed enforcer Steve MacIntyre to a 2 year, 2 way contract.

2:09 pm: Columbus Blue Jackets sign goaltender Curtis McElhinney. Pittsburgh has signed Riley Holzapfel to 1 year deal.  It’s now being reported that Matt Carkner is headed to the Islanders. Update: TSN is reporting Carkner to the Islanders on a 3 year deal.

2:02 pm: Welcome to Free Agency day, Islanders. NYI sign forward Brad Boyes to 1 year, $1 million deal.

1:58 pm: Sharks have signed forward Adam Burish on a 4 year deal valued at just under $2 million per year.

1:50 pm: Forward Brad Staubitz has signed with the Anaheim Ducks per Bob McKenzie. Does this mean George Parros and his famous mustache are on the move?

1:45 pm: Ok. Deals coming in really fast now. 1 year deal for Guillaume Latendresse with Ottawa Senators pending a physical.

A big FA off the table with the Dallas Stars signing Ray Whitney. Per Aaron Ward, it’ll be 9 million over 2 years. That’s $4 million in salary and $500,o0o in bonuses a year.  Update:  Whitney’s contract contains a no movement clause and a modified no trade clause.

1:42 pm: Colby Armstrong broke his own signing via Twitter, a 1 year deal with the Montreal Canadiens.

1:40 pm : The Lightning have signed defenseman Artem Sergeev out of Val-d’Or of the QMJHL. Ahhh, new prospect smell.

1:37 pm: Minnesota has signed center Torrey Mitchell, most recently of the San Jose Sharks, to a 3 year deal which will see him making $1.19 million per year.

1:29 pm: Per Darren Dreger of TSN, Zenon Konopka will take his high faceoff percentage and fisticuffs to the Minnesota Wild with a 2 year contract.

1:25 pm: Pittsburgh gets another goalie. Penguins have signed Jeff Zatkoff agrees to two-year, two-way deal with PIT. $525K in NHL/105K in the AHL.

1:18 pm:  Ottawa Senators have signed defenseman Mike Lundin to a 1 year deal at $1.15 million. Lundin played for the Minnesota Wild last season and the Tampa Bay Lightning before that.  Whew, news is coming in fast and furious. No time to be witty!

1:13 pm: Joe Corvo is returning to Carolina. The Hurricanes have agreed to terms with the defenseman on a one year contract valued at $2 million. The ‘Canes have also signed backup goalie Justin Peters.

1:10 pm: Per the New York Rangers twitter, they have agreed to terms with defenseman Stu Bickel.

1:03 pm: Avs stay busy, sign former Senator Matt Carkner. No terms of the deal have been disclosed yet. UPDATE: Apparently there is no deal in place yet. The Avs twitter announced the deal, but Carkner’s agent Larry Kelly says there is no agreement in place. Interesting…

12:55 pm: Colorado Avalanche have signed center John Mitchell to a 2 year deal. Will the New York Rangers miss him as a depth player?

12:42 pm: David Moss has agreed to a 2 year deal with the Phoenix Coyotes. Detroit Red Wings have signed Jonas Gustavsson. Solid back up Jimmy Howard?

12:37 pm: Florida Panthers agree to one-year, two-way contracts with C Greg Rallo and G Dov Grumet-Morris. Both players played for the Panthers’ American Hockey League affiliate, the San Antonio Rampage.

12:35 pm: The Minnesota Wild are making a big deal out of the fact that they have made an offer for Zach Parise and Ryan Suter. It may seem laughable, but it shows they’re putting forth the effort at least. That counts for something, right?

12:19 pm: Winnipeg stays busy. They have signed former Ducks & Canuck forward Jason King to an AHL deal. He most recently played for the St. Johns Icecaps.

12:15 pm: And the Winnipeg Jets have agreed to terms with defenseman and Winnipeg native Derek Meech.

12:12 pm – Brett Sutter is staying in Carolina on a 2 way deal, 550K/105K with guarantee of $150K.

12:09 pm- The Flyers have signed goaltender Michael Leighton to a 1 year, $900K contract. I guess that solves their backup problems. If you’re expecting me to make Philly, goaltending jokes… well, news is coming in too fast. You get a reprieve.

12:05 pm – Well, that was fast. The Tampa Bay Lightning have signed Benoit Pouliot to a 1 year deal valued at $1.8 million. They acquired Pouliot’s rights but did not offer him a qualifying offer earlier this week. Not bad. It may have something to do with Steve Yzerman being a Jedi.

11:58 am – A bit late on this, but a few signings have already come through the pipeline. Jordan Staal has signed with the Carolina Hurricanes, the extension is for 10 years and $60 million.  Yes, that is what Pittsburgh offered him. Trolololo?

Ryan Smyth has re-signed with the Edmonton Oilers on a 2 year contract for $2.25 million.

Reports out of south Florida are that Scott Clemmensen and the Panthers have reached an agreement. No details as of yet.
